The Man Behind the Tower
When the famous engineer Gustave Eiffel designed the Eiffel Tower for the 1889 World's Fair in Paris, he included a secret just for himself. While the rest of the massive tower was made of cold, hard iron and open to the public, he built a private, cozy apartment right at the summit, nearly 1,000 feet in the air!
Inside The SECRET Room
This hidden apartment was the envy of the Parisian elite. Here is what made it so special:
- Strictly Private: Rich people offered Gustave Eiffel thousands of dollars just to rent the room for one night, but he refused everyone! It was his personal sanctuary.
- Cozy Design: Unlike the steel tower outside, the apartment was filled with warm wooden furniture, colorful wallpaper, oil paintings, and even a grand piano.
- Famous Guests: He only invited a few very special guests. The most famous visitor was the legendary inventor Thomas Edison, who gifted Eiffel a phonograph machine during his visit!
Today, you can see wax figures of Gustave Eiffel and Thomas Edison inside the restored room!
Nowadays, visitors who go to the top of the tower can actually peek through a glass window to see this secret room exactly as it was over 100 years ago! Did you guess the landmark correctly in our 10-second challenge? Let us know in the comments!
